Thursday, June 26, 2008: We received the latest edition of our local newspaper today. The front page headline reads: "Soldier injured in Iraq receives hero's welcome". The article is about a local US Army SPC who was injured while driving a military vehicle. Due to the nature of his injuries, he has returned home for a 30 day convalescent leave. He was welcomed home on Saturday with an escort by police, fire trucks, and members of the American Legion. Really, the details aren't as important as the message that Saturday's parade seems to give. While this soldier is a hero, there are others in our same community that have served in the military, have come home, and were not given the same heartwarming reception. Was it just because he was injured? Why can't all of our millitary members receive the same welcome home? Whether you believe in the war or not, we need to support the men and women who are serving our country and fighting for the freedoms that we have and often take for granted. posted by Maryanne @ 4:23 PM | | Tuesday, June 24, 2008: Home Improvements Last couple of days have been dedicated to home improvement stuff. We got a new storm door for the front entrance. It's a nice self storing door and it improves the look of the entry way. Only concern is that Daisy tried to get out this evening. We really haven't had much of a problem with her. Microchiping sounds like a god idea since she doesn't wear a collar. Yesterday, the concrete contractor came and ripped out our old walkway. New cement was poured this morning and hopefully we'll be able to walk on it sometime tomorrow. I will post before and after pictures once it's all finished. posted by Maryanne @ 7:09 PM | | Thursday, June 19, 2008: Good Day Sarah and I got to enjoy a good portion of the afternoon today. The afternoon found us in Sun Prairie, where there is a really cool park with a huge play area with tons of different slides and things. It's like a large maze. We met my friend Kristina and her girls there. Afterwards went to the downtown area and the girls played in the water fountain until it was time to leave. I met Terry after he was done with work so he could take Sarah home and I was able to spend the rest of the evening working on my scrapbook =) posted by Maryanne @ 9:10 PM | | Tuesday, June 17, 2008: Eight Months Later.... Wow...it really has been a long time since I have blogged. A lot has happened in the last eight months, I'm not sure where to begin. We decided not to sell our house Nov 07 and it was a blessing in disguise because now as of May 08, I am no longer working....and we're also going for round two at parenthood (Oct 28, 2008). In the next few weeks we will be undergoing some home improvement investments like having our roof and our walkway redone. We were out in the backyard this past weekend and were discussing (ok, I was mainly spending Terry's money) what we would like to do to improve the backyard so it is more efficient and will improve the value of the house. Eventually in the next 5 years I think we'll try to sell again but only time will tell. I think that's the bulk of the big news...Sarah has made some good progress as far as eating and developing. She was on our scale here at home and it said 23.0 lbs which is the most she has weighed ever. Woo hoo! It's a multitude of emotions watching her learn new things. That's about it for now...until next time, which I hope won't be another eight months =) posted by Maryanne @ 12:43 PM | | Sunday, October 28, 2007: Vacation Well, we've been back a couple of days from our road trip to Colorado. The trip was good overall. The ride back home was a little challenging since we were all tired but we made it through. We got to Loveland about 7:30 on Oct 18th. Sarah was really good on the whole trip. I was amazed and proud to admit that we didn't need to use a portable DVD player. Some people had commented on how brave we were for not taking one. I thought about what I had done on long road trips back in the day. Some of my fear was that Sarah has to be in a car seat where as back in my day we didn't need one. My parents had a big car so there was plenty of room to move around. Friday we didn't do much of anything. Shay (Jimbo's mom) and I went to the store to get the ingredients for dinner and I made lasagna (yes, I can cook and it was more than edible). Saturday took us to Estes Park for a short walk in the moutains. Sarah loved the mountains and still is talking about them. It snowed on Sunday morning but not enough to do any damage. It was a wet snow and didn't stick. We had some delicious ribs that night and started a game of Phase 10 (that we have yet to finnish-but who knows when). Caly (my sister-in-law) had Monday off from work but had an interview for a different position within the company so we went to Fort Collins and did some shopping. On the way home we got some pumpkins for Sarah to help carve. Tuesday we got a later start than we should have and only made it to Lincoln rather than Council Bluffs. We ended up in Madison on Wed about 7pm. I took Sarah to urgent care when we got home because she had developed a horrible cough that was keeping everyone up at night and she was complaining that it hurt to cough. We were given cough syrup and amoxycillin and she's doing much better. I, on the other hand got sick on Friday and am dealing with sinus and flu symptoms. I hope to be back to work tomorrow but we'll see. posted by Maryanne @ 7:39 AM | | Thursday, October 11, 2007: Please stop... Just recently this link was posted on MySpace. Watching this video made me cry like I haven't in awhile (and still am as I type)...it makes me ask God "Why, why, why?!" This poor, helpless, beautiful baby...your child that you brought to this earth...why did she have to suffer such cruelty!! Her suffering may help to raise awareness but at such an expense!!! My heart just aches not only for Kelsey but how many other thousands of children who suffer and will continue to suffer. I ask you and everyone to pray not only for the children but for those that abuse these precious works of God. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWow42TCwzg posted by Maryanne @ 6:32 PM | | Wednesday, September 12, 2007: Fall Back This weeks weather has given us our introduction to fall. Out with the warmer pants and long sleeves. I like fall weather because we don't have to deal with the humidity; however, I know what is yet to come. October is fast approaching. We have to make final plans for our trip to Colorado. Sarah's first cousin Elayna Rose was born 8/29/07. I can't wait to meet her. There has been a lull in events with the house-at least as far as showings. We had a stager come in (at the reccomendation of our relator) and have yet to see her feedback. The biggest comment was to change the floor in the kitchen. I hope that it's relatively cheap to update. We've also talked about adding another layer of shingles to our roof, new gutters and cleaning up the deck and painting it. I have mixed feelings on whether or not to keep it on the market right now. Terry seems to think that keeping it on is a good idea. We'll have to see what happens. posted by Maryanne @ 8:11 AM | | |
