Thursday, August 25, 2005: We're getting our house repainted. It will no longer be a blah dirty brown but a grey color with the white trim. Hopefully we'll add shutters and paint the door (the color still up for debate). When I got home today I realized that the metal railings by the door were painted black. This is very cool because 1. we don't have to do it and 2. it wasn't mentioned in the estimate. Frankly if it does cost more, I don't care because of the hastle that it was to begin scraping at it. Now that the house has a fresh coat of paint it makes the deck and roof look really crappy. Nothing that a good power wash can't solve for the moment. posted by Maryanne @ 6:31 PM | | Saturday, August 20, 2005: Aftermath There's still quite a bit of clean up from Thursday's tornado. Driving either down Hwy N or on 51 you can see the path of where the storm went through. Roads are still blocked, open only to those with wristbands. I'm sure it will take awhile for things to seem somewhat normal again. I'd like to take the time to thank everyone for their calls and or emails expressing concernand making sure that Terry and I are ok. It means a lot to me. posted by Maryanne @ 7:11 PM | | Friday, August 19, 2005: When it rains, it pours Stoughton has had a rough week. Just a few days ago, Christ Lutheran Church burned down (not completely but there was extensive damage). This is a church that is approximately about 2-3 blocks from our house. Terry and I had been to one of their services and were going to make an appointment to speak to the pastor about membership. Is this an omen? Yesterday, Mother Nature decided to pay us a very nasty visit. Terry and I are safe and have a roof over our heads but there are several familys that either were taken to the hospital and lost their house completely. Watching the news this morning was numbing. I always get a little freaked out when there's talk about tornado warnings. Terry just doesn't seem understand this. Granted, this is only the second tornado that has hit the Stoughton area since I've been alive but never say never. When I couldn't get a hold of Terry last night on my way home from Madison, I kept thinking "I could be without a house or a husband" Call it pregnancy hormones or just plain paranoia, it's not a situation I want to go through again. posted by Maryanne @ 1:35 PM | | |
