Saturday, May 20, 2006: This weekend marks the celebration of Syttende Mai..also affectionately known as ShitIn MyEye weekend (I'm not quite sure why though). What is Syttende Mai you ask? Supposedly it's celebrating Norway's independance day, but a recent article in the Courier Hub indicates differently. Last night Terry and I played in the City Band at the opening ceremonies. This usually starts at the end of the annual canoe race. It often makes me wonder why we don't start playing earlier because no one listens to us as the racers come in. Maybe this is unavoidable. Who knows... Anyways, afterwards we made a trip to curb my desire for FFA cheese curds. Yuuumy! On our way there we saw a few people I know from school. It's interesting to see some of the people that I grew up with, now with their own children. Looking at their children is like a flashback in time from when we were in school. Does this make me feel old? Not really. Although I'm sure Terry would like to argue this. Today we walked downtown. It wasn't terribly crowded. I got some more cheese curds (this is the only time of the year I can get them) and also a Coney Dog. Yes, you read right, a Coney Dog. They were selling Chose A&W Coney Dogs at the Norwegian Dancer booth (recipe courtesy of Frieda Chose). The Chose's sold the A&W in 1995 (to a couple of pot smoking losers) so it was nice to have that tasty treat again. Would have been nice if it would have been 99 cents though. So, that has been our experience thus far. Sarah's first Syttende Mai weeekend. Tomorrow will be the big parade. She won't be able to have cheese curds this year but there will be plenty of other years to come. posted by Maryanne @ 2:26 PM | | |
