Sunday, April 22, 2007:
Violence

Today's sermon at church touched on many things that I have been thinking about this past week. Spring is a time for new life, a time to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord. How can we find the light in the darkness that this world brings? Is our world becoming increasingly violent or does it just seem that way because of the media and how ready the news is at our fingertips? I can remember a time when we didn't have to worry about guns in schools, a time when there were less security measures in air travel.
My heart goes out to the families of those who lost their lives at Virginia Tech. There have been many stories as to why it happened...He was a sick man and needed help. It's been reported that the reason was because he was picked on at school and felt left out. Wasn't that the reason that the events at Columbine happened? Is the answer to any one's frustration and/or feeling of isolation is to kill and kill the innocent?
This past week I found a prayer card that really embraces the latest current events.

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace: where there is hatred, let me so love; where there is injury, pardon; where this is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness light; and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grand that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved, as to love: for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
