Sunday, October 16, 2005: Normally, I would associate this headline with something from The Onion. Sadly enough, it's from the Wisconsin State Journal. Kellenberg Memorial High School in Uniondale, NY has cancelled prom for this year because they're fed up with the sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll that has become of prom festivities. "Fed up with the revealing evening gowns, flashy tuxedos, strech limos, alcohol, drugs, sex and rowdy house parties.." Yes, this is a Catholic High School. Kellenberg's administration has sent parents two letters that can be found here. There's going to be less tolerance for the taboo, but I don't think it's just a Catholic/religious thing. Have all prom's become a rite of passage for teens? Is this something I'm going to have to worry about 16-18 years from now why my daughter is getting ready for her prom? Do kids really need to spend an enormous amount of money on one night that in 5-10 years is going to be virtually meaningless? I remember when I told my friends (there was a group that was going stag) that I wasn't going to prom that they told me that I would regret it. It's been about 14 years since and looking back, I don't regret it one bit. posted by Maryanne @ 3:59 PM | | Saturday, October 08, 2005: Home Sweet Home Well, Daisy didn't come home until Thursday afternoon. Wednsday, the clinic had called my cell phone (even though they had my work number) and left a message about 1pm (that I didn't get until about 5 min before getting to the clinic) that Daisy was running a fever and they wanted to keep her overnight. Of course, pregnancy hormones went into high gear. Fighting back the tears I asked why my work number hadn't been called (I had taken 2 hrs of vacation to pick her up) and pretty much demanded to see her to which they wisely let me do. She came home Thursday and looked a lot better than she did when I last saw her. She is on the road to recovery and misbehavior having already been on the table and scratching at our green recliner. She's not quite the playful Daisy we all know and love but I keep having to remind myself that she had major surgery and needs to recover and rest. On a side note: Not only did she decide to eat a paper clip but she found one of my hair ties as well. *sigh* posted by Maryanne @ 8:03 PM | | Tuesday, October 04, 2005: Crappy start The week has started out just like the Packers have started their season. Yesterday morning I must have thought it would be a good idea to leave my wallet at Kwik Trip when I stopped for breakfast. Fortunately I caught it on time and called them when I got to work and they were nice enough to hold it for me until I got done with work at 6 (everything was still in the wallet when it was returned). The work day in general was pretty shitty. It was like being at my old job being yelled at constantly by customers. But days like that at WEA are far and few. Then I come home to find that our cat Daisy is sick. So sick that she is having surgery today to remove this from her intestines. The damage will be $450.00 to $650.00. I'll find out specifically when I pick her up tomorrow. The thought had crossed my mind to strangle her but I figured she is suffering enough. If anyone knows how to cancel this week and go to the next, please let me know. posted by Maryanne @ 2:31 PM | | |
