Freedom

I decided to take the next few days off from work as a birthday present to myself. So far, it's been ok. Sarah had her one year check up this morning and she's healthy but needs to gain weight (oh to have that problem!). The shots went better than expected. She cried while they were giving them to her but settled down quickly.

Here's my gripe for the day: The US Postal Service are a bunch of freakin morons. Aunt Mary sent a package for me and Sarah. We weren't home when they first tried to deliver it, so I went to the post office annex (per the instructions on the little card that was left). When I arrived there, they said that it was being delivered. Ok. When I got home, guess what was in my mailbox? Another freakin card. *sigh* We got a final notice today, so I made some phone calls. The person at the 800 number (given on the card) said that he was going to put a note to not send it back to sender. I called the local office and whoever I talked to there said that it wasn't there but it could be with the person on the route currently. I asked "Is there any way that you can contact the carrier now?" This would have been too easy. To make a long story short, I have to call tomorrow morning before going to the annex to make sure that my package is there. I told the local guy that if it's not there then I will be very angry. "You won't like it when I'm angry."

Awwwww...

Thanks Jami for sending this. Some of you may have seen these pictures before but I think they're just cute. Here's the link.

The pictures aren't staged. The accompanying German text on these pages explains how the fawn's mother was killed shortly before it's birth and the fawn was then raised in a rural town with help from townspeople (this part is not so clearly explained). The wild rabbit showed up one day. At first the two just grazed in the same area and after a while got closer until they became "friends". They grazed together and kept each other company the whole day, the rabbit built a nest next to the deer instead of burrowing and other cute stuff like that. The author (who is also the photographer) mentions that the two could have formed this friendship to be able to better protect themselves from predators by warning each other and also the deer helped the rabbit have easier access to food in the winter. The rest of the story is available here in German.http://www.tanja-askani.de/info/?p=18

Spoiler:Eventually when the fawn was old enough it was sent to a park where it would be released into the wild. The top picture shows how after the fawn had been anesthetized for easier transport and despite strange humans being around, the rabbit went up to the deer and supported its sleepy head "as if it were saying goodbye"
AWWWWWWWWWWW....*sniff sniff*

Time Flies

Terry and I brought Sarah home a year ago...she was lit up like a glow worm due to jaundice.

We had a small party. Caly (Terry's sister) came in from Colorado. Sarah had a lot of fun with her Auntie Caly. I made a peanut shaped cake. It was my first attempt at cake decorating. It wasn't too shabby but far from professional. Pictures to be posted later.

Much fun was had by all.

Obits

We've recently lost some infuential people in the world. I thought this was very interesting. Pay attention to the quote of the day on top of the page. Irony?

Happy New Year

Welcome to 2007. I hope that this year brings much health, happiness, and peace to you.

This year has been an adjustment to our family. Sarah has been a challenge but she is the joy in my life (along with Terry of course). We've been asked when the next one will come along and we're willing to wait a bit. The first few months with Sarah were so frustrating for us that we want to enjoy her for a little while.

Here's the progress she's made so far:
-She's been teething quite a bit. There's three teeth so far and there are others just waiting to come up.
-We've got her off a bottle. She does have milk before bed but it's with a sippy cup and once we're done with the last can of formula then we're giving her whole milk.
-Daisy is starting to get a work out because Sarah loves chasing her. Pretty soon she's gonna be walking/running so, Daisy...watch out.

There are many other ways that she's grown and changed...there will be more updates to follow.

Terry and I decided to stay at home last night. We watched the Packers defeat Chicago and possibly watched Brett's last game. Will he retire? It's hard to say. His interview last night was emotional but I can't say whether it's emotion because it was his last game or if it was the emotion of the decision (this is what my last game is going to be like). What ever he decides, we wish him nothing but the best.

That's about it for now.
