Wednesday, March 08, 2006: Of course the AMA is going to frown upon the "typical" college spring break. Duh! But why is this call only for women? "The AMA is trying to call attention to underage drinking among women because their bodies process alcohol differently and put them at greater risk for health problems, Dr. J. Edward Hill, AMA's president, said Tuesday." So what, just because women's bodies process alcohol differently, it's ok for men to binge drink themselves into an oblivion? Binge drinking and partying seems to be the highlight of going to college. I remember doing a fair amount of drinking in my college days (I can imagine that some of you have some good blackmail stories). Looking back, I don't see the fun in not remembering half of what happened the night before, puking up what you've eaten for the past week and Lord knows whatelse..but for whatever reason the next weekend my friends and I would be out on the town... I was one of the ones that took the "safe" road and did service trips during some of my spring breaks but, there have been times where I have wished that I would have gone on a "typical" spring break trip. I'm sure that most of the students surveyed in this article (that stated they regretted going) would go on a trip again. posted by Maryanne @ 9:02 AM | | |
