Monday, March 27, 2006: We had quite a busy weekend. Friday: We got our new car. Saturday morning: We needed to clean and prepare for our guests coming in from out of town..along with watching Katie and Colin for a couple of hours while mommy went to the hospital to have their baby brother. Saturday evening: We ordered pizza from Marsala's and then Donna and I took a shopping trip to Shopko. Sunday: Sarah's baptism. She did really well at the church..even when Pastor pour the water on her head. It wasn't until we got her back home that she began to get fussy. Probably too much going on for her. Then we went to the hospital to see the new baby. He's a combination of his brother and sister but then again it's still too early to tell... posted by Maryanne @ 8:39 AM | | Citizenship Would you pass the citizenship test if you needed to take it? Terry and I decided to pay Stark Motors in Sun Prairie a visit yesterday. We weren't expecting to drive away with a new car, but we did. I have had my eye on the Pontiac Vibe for a while. Unfortunately because I owed too much on my Malibu, we couldn't afford the payments on a Vibe. After dealing with a sales guy at Stark in Stoughton (same dealership, different location) I told Sandy to not waste our time (as he seemed to do) and gave her what we can afford and don't bother trying to sell us something that will be out of our price range. She tried to sell me a 2005 Cavalier aka Crapalier but I quickly shut that idea down. The next car she brought us was a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am. It's a sporty looking car with a lot more oomph than my Malibu. I liked the feel of it and the way the worked the numbers made it affordable for us. That's all I asked for in the first place. posted by Maryanne @ 10:54 AM | | Wednesday, March 22, 2006: Gilead I was able to sit down yesterday morning and listen to the latest CD I've received. Earl Madary presents his listeners with a collection of songs encompassing Christian faith and God's love in his latest release, Gilead. It's a quiet yet complling profession of profound faith and deep love of God. The songs at first seem bare and sparse since the accompaniment is a mix of guitar and piano only (with percussion on "Psalm 40"); however, I think it is almost better this way. It helps to spotlight his message of a clear and pure faith. I was introduced to Earl when I was Viterbo. He was my professor, mentor, and friend. Earl has a beautiful tenor voice. I have always admired his warm and clear tone. Holding Sarah, enjoying a morning cup of coffee and listening to Gilead was a wonderful way to start my day...both Sarah and I enjoyed it. posted by Maryanne @ 6:34 AM | | Monday, March 20, 2006: Happy Spring
Today marks the official start of spring. We have seen some signs in the past couple of weeks...I think the robins came home a little too soon though. I took this pic just before the snow started to melt. posted by Maryanne @ 11:39 AM | | Tuesday, March 14, 2006: Interesting 1,050 miles is a long way to drive for a dog that ran away. I just don't feel I'm ready to leave Sarah just yet (yes, I'm a first time mom). Plus, we're waiting to see what happens with our childcare situation (i.e. our babysitter is expecting child #3 and should have the baby soon). I talked to HR last week to see how long I can take leave before I have to pay for health insurance and was told April 15. Fair enough. I was also told that I could potentially come back part time until that date but that it was at the departments discretion. Cool. Today I learned that if I come back it has to be on a full time basis. Management is not going to honor my part time request. It's all or nothing. Alright, I can see from a business standpoint why they won't grant my request but give me a frickin break. It's just a matter of two weeks that I'd be part time and then I would resume my full time status. *sigh* So much for flexibility. Back to square one, sort of. My thought...return April 5th (my baby will be 3 months *sob*) and then that next week I have Good Friday completely off...considering that Terry will have a flex day off each week it will be like I'm going back part time....two can play at this game so there! =P posted by Maryanne @ 4:00 PM | | Friday, March 10, 2006: Confused Just for giggles and grins, I decided to look at Travelocity for airfare prices. Terry and I have often talked about going to Mexico to see my mom's side of the family. We've also talked about going out to Virginia to see Terry's sister Caly and her husband Jim. It's $2 cheaper to fly out of Chicago and go to Mexico City than it is to leave from Madison and fly to Virginia. *scratches head* I don't get it. Now, if we had enough vacation time, going by train to Virginia would be the way to go. Guess we'll see what the future brings us..... posted by Maryanne @ 1:58 PM | | Thursday, March 09, 2006: Smiles

Duh! But why is this call only for women? "The AMA is trying to call attention to underage drinking among women because their bodies process alcohol differently and put them at greater risk for health problems, Dr. J. Edward Hill, AMA's president, said Tuesday." So what, just because women's bodies process alcohol differently, it's ok for men to binge drink themselves into an oblivion? Binge drinking and partying seems to be the highlight of going to college. I remember doing a fair amount of drinking in my college days (I can imagine that some of you have some good blackmail stories). Looking back, I don't see the fun in not remembering half of what happened the night before, puking up what you've eaten for the past week and Lord knows whatelse..but for whatever reason the next weekend my friends and I would be out on the town... I was one of the ones that took the "safe" road and did service trips during some of my spring breaks but, there have been times where I have wished that I would have gone on a "typical" spring break trip. I'm sure that most of the students surveyed in this article (that stated they regretted going) would go on a trip again. posted by Maryanne @ 9:02 AM | | New trend? posted by Maryanne @ 7:56 AM | | Saturday, March 04, 2006: Night out I just came home from what would have been a very pleasant evening at The Casbah. Let me explain and start from the beginning. Since Terry had an evening out last Friday, I decided that I needed a turn to go out. I sent out an email to the girls and we decided on The Casbah for dinner and drinks. The Casbah is a Mediterranean restaurant in downtown Madison. I have been there before and have had good experiences. We were seated on the lower level which has traditional seating (low tables and sitting on the floor with cushons). The waitstaff was good about getting water filled, silverware on the table, and taking our drink order. After that it went downhill. We arrived at 8:00 and didn't get our food till 9:30. Considering that we only ordered drinks and no appetizers seems like a long time to me. The waitress didn't come and offer us more to drink nor did she make any apologies for the delay. At one point we had thought they had forgotten us. Some of us had considered ordering dessert; however, we didn't want to wait 45 minutes to get it. Unfortunately since we were a table of 8, there was a 18% gratituity automatically tacked on to the total bill (not to mention the fact that they will not do separate checks). In retrospect, maybe we should have requested to speak to a manager...perhaps we could have been compensated by taking some of our drinks off the bill. We did learn that there was a birthday party being held upstairs and that they were short staffed. These things are understandable but we should have been told this during dinner, not left hanging and wondering when we were going to get our food. Terry and I have talked about the fact that you go to a restaurant for the convenience and service. Most of the time those that are ambitious and able enough can cook most meals at home. In summary: I enjoyed having a night out and catching up with friends, but I wish that the service would have been better. Next time we'll have to go elsewhere. posted by Maryanne @ 9:59 PM | | Friday, March 03, 2006: America's Drive In I hate the fact that we see Sonic comercials on TV and the closest one is in the God forsaken state of Illinois. posted by Maryanne @ 3:04 PM | | 8 Weeks Sarah had her 8 week checkup this afternoon.
